“Alaska Chamber 101”

RPetro1Rachael Petro was selected as the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce’s President and Chief Executive Office in February 2011.  Prior to joining the Alaska Chamber, Petro served as Deputy Commissioner for the Alaska Department of Administration and has a distinguished public service career in Alaska’s Legislative and Executive Branch.

In 1996 Petro began her career in public service as a legislative aide in the Alaska State Senate. From 1998 to 2002 she lived in Ketchikan and worked as the Associate Director of the Alaska Forest Association and then as the Community Relations Manager for Ketchikan General Hospital.

In January of 2003 Petro returned to public service as a Special Assistant to the Lieutenant Governor and served as the Denali Commission State Co-Chair’s Representative and the State’s Deputy Chief of Staff at the Commission. In April 2005 she transferred to the Department of Natural Resources where she served as the Special Assistant to the Commissioner.

Petro holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Economics with an emphasis in Journalism from Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, Michigan and a Masters of Business Administration from Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage, Alaska.

Petro wasn’t born in Alaska, but likes to emphasize that she got here as quickly as she could. She considers her current post her “dream job” and enjoys working with Alaska businesses and our state’s policy makers to improve Alaska’s business climate and its economic future.  Petro resides in Anchorage with her husband Andy, and daughters Lucy Mae and Tabitha Ann.
